What we do

Roofing, siding, windows and gutters — the whole outside of a house. Roofing is the core of the business and the rest grew around it, for a straightforward reason: water that gets past the roof shows up in the siding, and a gutter that cannot carry a downpour ends up in the basement. Treating the outside of a building as one system rather than four trades is the difference between fixing a symptom and fixing a cause.

We also do commercial and multi-family work — flat and low-slope systems, coatings and restoration, and the scheduling that makes a roof replaceable while the building stays occupied.

Three companies, run locally

Coldstream runs as three local businesses rather than one brand with a map on the wall. Cincinnati, Columbus and St. Louis each have their own office, their own crew and their own phone number. The person who answers knows what the weather does to houses in that market, because they work there.

How a job actually runs

Every job starts with a free inspection. Someone climbs up, looks at what is actually happening, photographs it, and tells you what they found — including when a repair is the honest answer and a replacement is not. Then you get a written quote with a number on it, the scope spelled out and the materials named.

The crew that quotes the job is the crew that does it. We do not subcontract, which is less a philosophy than a practical matter: when the person who wrote the scope is the person on the roof, nothing is lost between the two, and there is nobody to point at afterwards.

At the end we walk it with you, run a magnet over the drive and take the debris with us. Our workmanship carries its own warranty and a claim on it goes to the same office that did the work.

What we will tell you that you may not want to hear

• When a repair beats a replacement. A roof at the end of its life is a different conversation from a roof with a failed flashing detail, and the second one is far more common than the first.
• When a claim will not go anywhere. Sudden storm damage is usually covered; age and wear usually are not. Filing regardless puts a claim on your record for nothing.
• When gutter guards are not worth it. Under heavy tree cover they turn an annual clean into an occasional one. On an open lot they rarely pay for themselves.
• When it can wait. Some things genuinely can, and saying so costs us a job and keeps a customer.

Licensing, insurance and the warranty

We are licensed for the work we carry out in Ohio, Kentucky and Missouri, and we carry liability cover and workers' compensation — so both your property and the people on it are covered. We will send the certificates before you commit to anything; you should ask any contractor for them and be suspicious of one who hesitates.

Materials carry their manufacturer's warranty, which is the manufacturer's promise about the product. Our workmanship carries ours, for 25 years, which is our promise about the installation. They are separate things and a contractor who blurs them is worth a second look.
