What happens next

1. We call you back. Someone from the office nearest you, usually the same working day. If you sent this in the evening or over a weekend, it will be the next working morning.
2. We agree a time. Most of our areas can be seen within a day or two. You do not need to take a day off — for an exterior inspection you usually do not need to be home at all, though it is easier if you are.
3. Someone walks it properly. On the roof, or along the elevation. Not a look from the driveway and not a satellite image. They will photograph what they find.
4. You get a written quote. Scope, materials and the number, in writing. Free, no obligation, and yours to keep whatever you decide.

Nothing is owed and nothing is booked

There is no deposit for an inspection and no charge for the quote. If the answer turns out to be that a repair will do, or that the job can safely wait a season, we will tell you that — it is a shorter conversation than the one after a replacement you did not need.

Two things worth having ready

• Roughly how old the roof or siding is, if you know. You often will not, especially if you did not buy the house new — that is fine, we can usually tell.
• Any photos you already took, particularly of an interior stain or something that only shows in heavy rain. They do not replace the inspection, but they tell us what to look for.

If it is a storm or insurance claim

Say so when we call. We inspect and document the damage the way an adjuster needs it documented, and we deal with them directly rather than leaving you to relay messages between two parties who both do this for a living. If the roof is open to the weather, we cover it first and sort the paperwork second.
